As federal SNAP benefits are set to freeze Saturday, Gov. Jeff Landry says Louisiana will provide temporary assistance to the state’s most vulnerable residents. That includes the elderly, disabled, and children.

Landry said those groups will automatically receive benefits for November without having to requalify. The state will upload payments to SNAP cards during the first four days of the month.

The governor said Louisiana’s strong financial position and funds in the state’s rainy-day fund allow the state to temporarily cover the missing benefits. He signed an emergency declaration last week to release those funds.
