Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Roosevelt man pleaded guilty today to murder charges and endangering the welfare of his two-year-old son for stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in front of the child in her Hempstead home in October 2024. Jose William Funes-Zabala, 44, pleaded guilty on October 29, 2025, before Judge Howard Sturim to Murder in the Second Degree (an A-I felony) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (an A misdemeanor). The defendant is expected to be sentenced to 20 years to life in prison on December 18, 2025.
