A Westmoreland County man is facing a misdemeanor charge after a gun was found at the security checkpoint at Pittsburgh International Airport, police said.

Allegheny County Police said the handgun was in a passenger's carry-on bag at the main checkpoint. TSA officers found the gun just before 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. Advertisement

Police said John Frye, 51, of Latrobe is facing a charge of carrying a firearm without a license.

"Passengers who bring firearms into an airport security checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910," county police said in a statement.
