The Indian Railways has recorded a sharp increase in fertiliser transportation in September 2025, reflecting the timely supply to different agricultural regions ahead of the upcoming Rabi sowing season.
According to the latest data available with the Ministry of Railways, the national transporter loaded 6.37 million tonnes of fertilisers in September, up nearly 37 per cent from 4.60 million tonnes in September 2024.
Officials said the increase in loading is aimed at ensuring adequate supply of fertilisers to key regions before farmers begin sowing winter crops.
“The increase in loading is (owing to) the early supply of fertilisers to key areas. It also indicates growing trust among fertiliser manufacturers and distributors in the reliability and cost-effectiveness of rail transport,” sa
