One of Edmonton’s most popular independent eateries is entering an uncertain time, with Continental Treat Fine Bistro being evicted from their downtown location shortly after closing their Whyte Avenue location earlier this year.
The city reportedly gave owner Sylvester Borowka just one hour’s notice to leave the property on Jasper Avenue. The location has been closed since October 10th, when the notice was given.
According to the City of Edmonton, the lease was terminated by Borowka’s bankruptcy trustee earlier in the month and the business had to be vacated for liability reasons. Additionally, a temporary lease cannot be given to the business as the City of Edmonton can’t legally enter into a new lease with a company that has entered bankruptcy.
