PEORIA -- A former Sangamon County Sheriff's deputy was convicted of second-degree murder for the July 6, 2024, fatal shooting of Sonya Massey inside of her home in an unincorporated area of Woodside Township.

Sean Grayson , 31, of Riverton had faced first-degree murder charges, which carried a sentence range of 45 years to life in prison. He shot Massey in the face after a situation over a pot of boiling water escalated.
