CLEVELAND, Ohio — The fate of Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase hangs in the balance as Major League Baseball’s investigation into alleged gambling violations stretches into its fourth month with no resolution in sight. While Clase maintains his innocence, Cleveland Baseball Talk Podcast hosts Joe Noga and Paul Hoynes paint a bleak picture of the All-Star closer’s future with the team.
According to Hoynes, who recently spoke with Clase’s agent Kelvin Nova, the pitcher firmly denies any wrongdoing.
“Emmanuel Clase has told him, ‘I don’t gamble, I don’t bet.’ And he said he is not really worried about his future because he’s done nothing wrong,” Hoynes relayed on the podcast, noting that Clase is currently training in the Dominican Republic while awaiting the investigation’s outcome.
