Hundreds protest job losses at Cami plant

INGERSOLL – A union-organized demonstration drew hundreds of people to the idle Cami assembly plant Wednesday in response to General Motors Canada’s decision to end production of its BrightDrop electric vehicle .

Several hundred gathered outside Cami’s 300 Ingersoll St. South address around 11:45 a.m., as Unifor, the union representing auto workers, held the rally to defend the jobs of laid off workers due to the plant’s shutdown.

“People are concerned about their jobs, so today, just to make it visible so the public knows, we’re really fighting for our jobs and how important auto jobs are here in Ontario, and how important they are to our Canadian economy,” said Brent Tree, president of Unifor Local 88 that represents Cami’s unionized workers.
