COLUMBIA — A Columbia man accused of stabbing and burning the body of his father has been committed to the Missouri Department of Mental Health indefinitely after a Boone County judge accepted his plea of insanity on Wednesday.
Steven Strumpf, 33, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, according to Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Roger Johnson.
Strumpf is charged with crimes including first-degree murder and arson in connection to the death of his father, David Strumpf, in January 2024.
Steven Strumpf originally had a trial set for October, but it was canceled after a judge ordered him to undergo a mental evaluation by the Department of Mental Health.
