Jonah Pezet signing with Parramatta on a one-year deal is a "perfect storm" says Eels coach Jason Ryles, who will rekindle his relationship with the playmaker from his days as an assistant coach at the Melbourne Storm.
The Eels officially announced they had secured Pezet for 2026 on Wednesday, before he joins Brisbane in 2027 on a long-term deal to replace veteran halfback Adam Reynolds.
The separate deals mean Pezet will play for three clubs in as many seasons, and while the short term contract has been criticised by some fans at the Eels, who claim the club will develop Pezet only for the Broncos to benefit, Ryles sees it differently.
"It just happened through circumstance really; he made himself a free agent and we saw a bit of a gap there with our depth," Ryles said on Wednesday
