Missouri Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, is urging the Trump Administration to reverse its plan to expand Argentine beef imports.

Smith joined Congressman Greg Steube of Florida and other Republican members of the committee in a letter to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins and U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer, warning the move could harm Missouri cattle farmers and disrupt ongoing trade negotiations.

A news release from Smith said the plan would not meaningfully reduce food prices and criticized Argentina’s continued tariffs on U.S. beef, calling the trade imbalance unfair. He also raised concerns about Argentina’s history of foot-and-mouth disease and the potential risks to American livestock.
