The last of the Maple Leafs’ training camp newcomers gets his chance in Columbus.

Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jackets, coach Craig Berube said Sammy Blais will make his Toronto debut. But the reason the 29-year-old former Berube winger with the 2019 Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues will play is winger William Nylander’s ongoing lower-body issue.

Nylander was able to get through Tuesday’s 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames at home, in which he assisted on the second of two goals by Matthew Knies. However, he’d also missed Saturday’s match against the Buffalo Sabres. Nylander didn’t comment on what was hindering him after the Calgary game.
