Derek Shelton arrived in Pittsburgh after a successful stint with the Minnesota Twins, serving as the team's bench coach and burnishing a strong reputation.
Now he’s going back.
According to reports, Shelton will return to manage the Twins, taking over for his good friend Rocco Baldelli.
The Twins finished 70-92 this past season and were fourth in the AL Central. They fired Baldelli, one of Shelton's closest friends, on Sept. 29.
In Pittsburgh, the Pirates fired Shelton on May 8 following a 12-26 start and seven-game losing streak. They were 10 games out of first place in the NL Central at the time and obviously never recovered.
It now creates a fascinating question in Pittsburgh.
