BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- In November, Delano voters must decide whether to maintain the existing sales tax or take on an upcoming measure against that decision.

Measure B seeks to extend the current city sales tax of 1%, which expires on March 31, 2028.

The measure, set for a vote Nov. 4, would repeal the expiration date of the tax initially approved in 2007 as Measure I.

The total city tax is 8.25%, and if Measure B failed, it would lessen to 7.25%.

"We've had it in place for the last, like I said, almost two decades. It brings the city $8.5 million at least. That's what it brought us last year," said Liz Morris, the Mayor of Delano.

Morris says the tax funds essential services such as street maintenance, parks and recreation and other general fund services.
