U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) used a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on Tuesday to call for the immediate removal of several Tennessee university professors who she says published “horrendous statements” following the political assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk .

The hearing, titled “Politically Violent Attacks: A Threat to Our Constitutional Order,” featured a tense discussion between Blackburn and conservative political commentator Michael Knowles about the role of what they termed “left-wing activist educators” in stoking political violence.

Blackburn cited three specific examples of public posts from professors at Cumberland University, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT Knoxville).
