A 33-year-old southwest Alabama man has been identified as a suspect accused of making threats against several synagogues in Alabama and surrounding states.
Jeremy Wayne Shoemaker, of Needham in Choctaw County, was taken into custody Sunday night during a search warrant at his home.
So far, Shoemaker is charged with resisting arrest and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.
“Last night likely acts of violence were averted before they happened,” Clarke County Sheriff DeWayne Smith said Monday.
The investigation began over the weekend when the FBI, the 1 st Judicial Circuit District Attorney, and the 1 st Judicial Circuit Special Response Team were notified of credible threats of violence against unnamed synagogu
