Millions of Americans, including about three million people in Florida, could be at risk of not receiving their SNAP food assistance distributions when the calendar turns to November.

The Florida Department of Children and Families has said it will not send out those payments if the federal government remains shut down in November.

This week, Democrats in the Florida Senate sent a letter to the governor, asking him to declare a state of emergency and use funds to buy and distribute food to people in need if SNAP payments are not sent out.
