SALEM, Ohio (WYTV) -- Feral cats have long been a growing problem across Salem, but thanks to one woman's determination, the city is finally turning frustration into progress.
Brenda Austin is the driving force behind Salem's new Trap, Neuter and Release program. Austin is always on the move, armed with traps and a deep sense of purpose.
"The health department gets calls. I get calls. We know the problem is everywhere," Austin said.
For years, complaints piled up with little action, but Brenda refused to give up. After multiple presentations to city council, her persistence paid off.
This fall, Salem leaders awarded $2,000 to help Brenda launch the first-ever Trap, Neuter and Release program, a community-led effort to humanely control the cat population.
