Peters Township girls volleyball coach Chris Kelly is a bit surprised that his squad will be playing in Saturday's WPIAL Class 4A title match.
“I think we are a year ahead of schedule,” said Kelly after the Indians earned their first title berth with Wednesday's 3-0 sweep of No. 6 seed North Catholic (11-8) in a semifinal match played at Mt. Lebanon. “I knew we had a very talented group of girls, but didn't think we would make it this far with so many underclassmen in our lineup.”
Peters Township (15-3), seeded No. 2 in the 14-team bracket, posted a 25-21 victory in the first set, then won by a narrow 25-23 margin in the second set. The Indians clinched the match with a 25-20 win in the third set.
