A second man has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal stabbing that occurred in Etobicoke over a year ago. Michael Jones, 61, of no fixed address, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Jesse Christian Halvorsen, 36, of Toronto. This announcement was made by Toronto Police late Wednesday night, nearly 14 months after another suspect, Shawn Downs-Abbott, 35, was charged with the same offense on September 13, 2025.

The incident took place on September 12, 2024, shortly after 6 a.m. Police responded to a 911 call reporting an altercation among a group of individuals in the vicinity of Lake Shore Boulevard and Islington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Halvorsen suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In addition to Halvorsen, another male was injured during the altercation. This individual fled the scene but was located by police the following day. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and subsequently charged with second-degree murder.

The stabbing was recorded as Toronto's 60th homicide of 2024. Jones is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
