SPOKANE, Wash. — According to court documents from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, former Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) Sergeant Clay Hilton is now facing a federal lawsuit for an alleged assault during an arrest in 2023. The lawsuit was filed on Oct. 23.

The court documents state that a grand jury has charged Hilton with Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law and Falsification of Records in a Federal Investigation.

The two charges stem from an incident in August 2023, when then-Sgt. Hilton was arresting Kevin Hinton outside Terrace View Park. Hilton can be heard on his bodycam footage informing Hinton that it was illegal to be in the Spokane Valley Park after hours.
