FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Balloons flew high on Wednesday in honor of Jade Rhodes, who would’ve turned 23 years old this year.

“She was full of love, light and a lot of talent,” Rhodes’ mother Joyce Bailey said. “She shared it freely with her community.”

Rhodes was one of several people shot at a Halloween party in Forrest County on Oct. 29, 2023.

The Forrest County Sheriff’s Office said Rhodes was hit while trying to escape.

“It’s no place for people getting killed when they’re just trying to have a good time,” Bailey said.

Five people were arrested in connection with the shooting.

All of them have since been released.

“As far as suspects go, we have nothing new on that,” Forrest County Sheriff Charlie Sims said.
