West Rowan is 4-0 in Rowan County games this season and will be favored to win a fifth one on Friday when Salisbury visits Mount Ulla.

True county sweeps — 5-0 — are rare, mostly because it wasn’t possible to go 5-0 against county opponents in a season until Carson opened in 2006 to give the county a sixth team.

So far, it’s only happened once. West beat all five of its county foes in 2022.

West has been 3-0 and 4-0 in the county quite often in this century, but there have been years when the Falcons didn’t play North, a number of years when the Falcons didn’t have Salisbury on the schedule, and even a few years, while South was in 2A, that West didn’t play the Raiders.
