SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Open enrollment for health insurance begins Saturday, Nov. 1.
San Diegans covered under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, could see premiums skyrocket as Congress deadlocks over expiring tax credits.
The enhanced premium tax credits were first rolled out in 2021 and later extended through the end of 2025.
Lawmakers on the hill are at odds over the tax credits that help lower and moderate-income people pay less for their health insurance premiums.
More than 145,000 people in San Diego County are enrolled in Covered California.
“These are gig economy workers. These are sole proprietors, farmers, truckers," said Jessica Altman, Executive Director of Covered California.
Altman said many are now weighing their options as premium costs rise.
