More than 684,000 Oklahomans are preparing to join millions more across the United States as next month’s SNAP benefits are set to go unfunded Nov. 1, due to the ongoing government shutdown.
On Tuesday, Governor Kevin Stitt rejected the idea that Oklahoma could use “rainy day” state surplus funds to infuse the program during the lapse.
“We are working with nonprofits, we’re working with our food banks,” he said. “We will be doing things later on this week.”
, Oklahoma Human Services clarified that existing SNAP benefits that are unused can still be accessed next month, despite no new funds being added to EBT cards.
