Six years ago, two women making their first foray into Virginia legislative public office faced each other for a House of Delegates seat that in 63 years had been only held by two men − Hardaway Marks from 1962 to 1992 and Riley Ingram from 1992 until then.
These two women − Republican Carrie Coyner, now the incumbent, and Democrat Lindsey Dougherty − are running a repeat of that race. The physical boundaries of the district have changed since then. Now, the 75th District includes all of the city of Hopewell and portions of Chesterfield and Prince George counties, but the desire of both to serve is as strong as ever.
