BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - It is Winter Weather Awareness Week in North Dakota.

As winter approaches, you need to stay informed about changing weather conditions with your First Warn Weather Team on air, on our website , and on social media.

We will pass along alerts that the National Weather Service issues, including watches ahead of impactful weather, then warnings or advisories when the hazardous conditions are occurring or about to.

Some of those warnings you may see this winter are for winter storms, ice storms, blizzards and extreme cold. Each has criteria that must be forecasted to occur before they are put in place.

North Dakota is known for outdoor activities, even in the winter. When you are outdoors, there are a few things you need to be mindful of.
