About four months after the City of Toledo restarted its collection program for delinquent water bills, about $3.7 million has been collected, city officials said.
On Wednesday, the Director of Public Utilities Doug Stephens gave an update to Toledo City Council’s finance committee regarding the collection program.
Prior to June, the city hadn’t had a collection program since the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the city was owed more than $66 million in delinquent water bills.
Mr. Stephens reported about 1,714 disconnection letters had been sent out. Of those letters, about 115 customers received a door tag. Of those who still did not pay their bill or get on a payment plan, 72 customers were disconnected. Since then, 29 of those 72 households have been reconnected, he said.
