Hurricane Melissa is set to bring hurricane conditions to Bermuda Thursday night as it passes west of the island, according to forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Melissa was a Category 2 storm with sustained winds of 105 mph as of 7 a.m. Thursday and a hurricane warning was in effect in Bermuda. Melissa was 605 miles west of Bermuda, moving north-northeast at 21 mph.
There is no threat to Louisiana or the Gulf Coast.
The latest forecast track shows Melissa moving past Bermuda Friday morning and weakening as it continues northeast in cooler open waters. The storm is expected to become post-tropical by Saturday morning, NHC forecasters said.
