A Yerington High School student was arrested Wednesday after the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said the juvenile made comments about committing a school shooting.
School officials told the sheriff's office that multiple students reported hearing a classmate talk about intentions to "shoot up the school."
The student, who is under 18, initially denied making the comments but later admitted to making threats, according to the sheriff's office.
"Based on the findings, it was determined that the student had made threats directed toward students, staff and the school, which caused fear and disruption," the sheriff's office said.
The student, who won't be identified, is being held at a juvenile detention center.
The sheriff's office said there was no existing threat to the district.
