Three Australians are facing the death penalty by firing squad in Bali after they were charged with the brutal murder of a Melbourne father during an alleged shooting at a villa in June.

Under heavy security on Thursday, Darcy Jenson, 27, Mevlut Coskun, 22, and Paea I Middlemore Tupou, 26 fronted the same courthouse where Schapelle Corby and the Bali Nine learned their fate.

Unshackled and unmasked, Jensen was seen laughing with his court-appointed translator as proceedings began.
