Works to replace parking bays in Fremantle with open space for pedestrians are scheduled to start next month.
They will be part of an extension of Henderson Street Mall to create a pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare between the FOMO and Convict Quarter precincts and the Cappuccino Strip.
It is expected to provide safer access to local businesses, including one of Fremantle’s most iconic destinations, the Fremantle Markets, which attracts a high volume of foot traffic.
The move will also allow for future activation of the area by the City of Fremantle and surrounding businesses.
Parking infrastructure will be removed and planter boxes and fixed and retractable bollards added.
The existing car park will be closed from November 10 to enable works to begin.
Alternative parking is available
