The Nationals have a new manager who has ties to Boston.

Washington hired Blake Butera as its next skipper, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported , Butera, 33, will be MLB’s youngest manager since 1972 when the Minnesota Twins hired Frank Quilici.

The Nationals fired both general manager Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez in July, and hired former Boston Red Sox assistant general manager Paul Toboni to replace Rizzo . Toboni will serve as Washington’s president of baseball operations.

Butera began his managerial career when he was 25 years old in the minor leagues. He has a history of success at that level with a 258-144 record and two league championships at Low-A.

The 33-year-old played baseball for four years at Boston College and was captain of the team his senior year.
