HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Hartford fire officials say two people were rescued from a fire at a 12-unit apartment building Thursday morning.

Crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Wethersfield Avenue for report of smoke in a multi-occupancy building around 9:33 a.m. On scene, firefighters found heavy smoke and a "high volume of fire."

One person was rescued from a third-floor window using a fire truck ladder, officials said.

Both people rescued were adults. Two people were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to fire officials.

Officials believe the fire started in the basement of the building and extended into the first and second floors. The cause is under investigation by the fire marshal's office.
