OAKLAND — A fistfight between two men Wednesday night in East Oakland turned into a three-on-one pummeling, which then led to a shooting, police said.
The 28-year-old man who was shot was in critical condition at a hospital.
The violence happened around 8:38 p.m. Wednesday outside in the 2200 block of 35th Avenue.
Police said a 39-year-old man who lives in the area had gotten into a fistfight with a younger man whom he did not know. What the fight was about remains under investigation.
The older man was winning the altercation, police said, when three friends of his opponent intervened. The 39-year-old man was severely beaten.
