National selectors are reportedly considering drawing a wildcard for the first Ashes Test in Perth, with West Australian all-rounder Mitch Marsh potentially in the frame to open.

After losing his spot to Beau Webster last summer, the all-rounder has repeatedly brushed aside questions about returning to the Test fold.

However, the question persists, with Marsh dominating at the top of the order as Australia’s white-ball captain and the country’s Sheffield Shield openers fail to make the most of the final game before the Ashes squad is scheduled to be announced.

Ahead of Wednesday’s opening T20 against India in Canberra, Marsh joked that he had been “hoping for a month off” after the white-ball tour, with the Ashes to start on November 21.

“I haven’t given it much thought, to be honest,”
