Hastings County councillors have had their first direct contact with the corporation overseeing a new federal high-speed rail project, with several voicing support despite a lack of planned stops in the county.
A new Crown corporation, Alto, oversees the project.

Alto’s community relations manager, Alexis Doyle, on Thursday in Belleville presented for council an overview of the proposed rail line. She said it’s not yet known exactly when the line will be in service.
She acknowledged the proposed line won’t stop between Peterborough and Ottawa. Doyle said it means the schedule will be more reliable.
Doyle also said a large public-outreach process is to begin in early 2026.
