A new case of chronic wasting disease was confirmed in a wild deer harvested by a hunter in Pulaski County, according to a news release from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Two independent types of tests were performed on tissue from the deer. The positive result is the second confirmed case in a wild deer in Kentucky, officials said. A wild deer in Ballard County tested positive for the disease in December 2023.
As part of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife’s response plan, the agency will schedule a public meeting in Pulaski County to address the disease, testing options and potential hunting regulation changes. The agency will also present an update on CWD to the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission during the Dec. 5 quarterly meeting in Frankfort.
