Paul Bales of genre production group The Asylum ( Sharknado , Blind Waters ) has been elected the new chair of the Independent Film & Television Alliance (IFTA). He succeeds outgoing chair Clay Epstein of Film Mode Entertainment, who served two consecutive two-year terms.
Bales has been a partner and chief operating officer at The Asylum since 2006. The Burbank-based producer/distributor is famous for its Sharknado franchise and B-movie mockbusters such as Bullet Train Down , Jurassic Domination and Top Gunner .
Before joining The Asylum, Bales served as National Director of SAGIndie, the Screen Actors Guild outreach program for independent producers. Bales has served several terms on the IFTA Board since 2015.
