STOUGHTON, Wis. (WKOW)— Schools across the nation have faced a shortage of bus drivers in recent years and the Stoughton Area School District is taking a hands-on approach to recruiting new drivers.
On Thursday, Oct. 30 from 4-5:30, community members can test drive a school bus at Stoughton High School front parking lot and learn more about the job.
Transportation coordinator, Karen Johnson, explained how the shortage has affected the Stoughton Area School District.
“We have eliminated a couple of routes, we have combined routes, we have some on-call sub drivers that are driving full time to help fill the gaps until we hire some new drivers,” Johnson said.
The event aims to remove the fear factor and allow community members to drive a school bus in a safe environment.
