It took awhile for the nerves to dissipate after Blackhawk Christian's semistate victory in Kokomo last Saturday.

The Class A No. 2 Braves (18-0-4) fell behind No. 1 Covenant Christian twice in the second half, and Blackhawk Christian ultimately needed a penalty kick shootout to knock the defending state champions out of the tournament.

The stakes could not have been higher: The nail-biting victory sent the Braves (18-0-4) through to the first state finals appearance in school history. Blackhawk Christian will face No. 10 Indianapolis Scecina (17-4-1) today at Michael Carroll Stadium at IU Indianapolis with a scheduled start time of 8:30 p.m.

"I think it was about four hours after the game when I could finally stomach or eat something," Blackhawk Christian coach Sam Meyer said on Tuesda
