CUMBERLAND, Maine — A pickup truck was struck by a freight train shortly after midnight Friday after the driver mistakenly turned onto train tracks off Tuttle Road, according to Cumberland police.
Fire and police crews responded around 12:25 a.m. to a report of a crash involving a train and a vehicle. When responders arrived, they found the train completely blocking the road and the pickup truck stuck on the opposite side of the tracks, according to a news release from the Cumberland Fire Department.
Cumberland Police Chief Charles Rumsey told NEWS CENTER Maine that the driver, 48-year-old Jesse Colfer of Cumberland Center, had turned onto the tracks, believing it was a side road, and became stuck.
