Officers with the Sumter Police Department are investigating after receiving a report of sharp objects found in candy from a Halloween event that was held on Thursday.
According to a news release, the report was received last night after 7 p.m. from a family that said they were investigating candy from the event when they discovered that some of the pieces had been tampered with.
No further details were immediately available, but the Sumter Police Department is encouraging parents and guardians to put safety first on Halloween by carefully inspecting both the wrappers and contents of the candy children receive while trick-or-treating door to door or from organized events. Individuals are also encouraged to call law enforcement immediately if a problem is suspected.
