Federal Way community members who access food through SNAP may stop receiving benefits on Nov. 1 if the government shutdown continues.

A federal judge ordered on Friday, Oct. 31, that the Trump administration utilize emergency reserves to pay for benefits, but according to the New York Times , it is unclear if or when the money will actually reach people, or how much they will receive.

The New York Times also reports that the U.S. Department of Justice hasn’t shared whether it will appeal.

Cash benefits for November 2025 will still be distributed as usual, but food benefits will not be issued after Oct. 31, according to the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
