TRENTON – New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy's administration announced today that the state is accelerating the delivery of food and hunger grants to Emergency Food Organizations, or food banks, ahead of the expected Nov. 1 halt in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits due to the federal government shutdown.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that it will not fund SNAP benefits starting Nov. 1., although there is approximately $6 billion in federal SNAP contingency funds available for emergency circumstances. The Trump administration has not released these funds, however.
