South-east Queenslanders are warned to brace for potential supercell thunderstorms that could bring large hail, destructive winds, and flash flooding with a possibility of tornadoes.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) senior meteorologist Kimba Wong said Saturday had a "potent set-up for severe thunderstorms" to occur around the south-east corner of the state.

"These are quite significant storms that do pose potential risk to life and property," she said.

Ms Wong said there may be 'very dangerous' thunderstorms or even super cellular thunderstorms that could result in a "perhaps more dangerous phenomena occurring with them as well". Loading...

That included destructive winds of more than 125 kilometres per hour, along with giant hail more than 5 centimetres in diameter.
