A Valparaiso woman avoided prison Friday for leaving a deadly crash.
Olivia Magana, 28, pleaded guilty in August to leaving the scene of an accident, a Level 4 felony.
The victim, Iecsha Bradshaw, 39, died hours after she was hit just before noon on Aug. 6, 2022, while walking across the street on the 5600 block of Broadway Avenue in Merrillville.
Judge Natalie Bokota sentenced Magana to four years – with two in Lake County Community Correction’s Kimbrough work release program and two years on probation.
During the hearing, Bradshaw’s daughter DeJ’anay Green briefly left the courtroom in tears when prosecutors played the bodycam footage as an officer caught up to Magana, waiting for police blocks away after the crash.
After the hearing, she said the verdict was “terrible.”
