FLINT, MI -- Mayor Sheldon Neeley says the city will be prepared to supply food boxes to Flint residents in November if their benefits are paused starting on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Appearing with three City Council members in a City Hall press conference on Friday, Oct. 31, Neeley said one in three city residents receives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, putting a huge part of the population at risk of going hungry.
“Starting tomorrow, families may experience some delays with their benefits because of the federal shutdown ...,” Neeley said. “We are proactively engaging, making sure we can lessen the blow for those individuals here in the city of Flint.”
