A judge has ruled a legal case involving the federal government and the owners of the Ambassador Bridge — all over the new Gordie Howe International Bridge — should head to trial.
At issue is whether the Canadian Transit Company, a Michigan company that owns the Canadian side of the bridge, has exclusive rights to collect tolls at border crossings in west Windsor, based on a more than 100-year-old piece of legislation.
With the Gordie Howe International Bridge set to open in the coming months, the company says the Canadian government owes them compensation for infringement on that right.
