The UK’s security minister has responded to Glasgow City Council’s objection to the ban of Palestine Action by warning of “disturbing” future attack ideas from the group.

The council branded the government proscription of the organisation as a “pathetic, authoritarian over-reaction to spray paint-based peaceful protest” earlier this year.

City leader Susan Aitken wrote to minister Dan Jarvis voicing the council’s objection on the move to proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist group following a motion.

Citing the city’s support of Nelson Mandela, the council motion said Glasgow is “standing up against apartheid in Palestine through regular peaceful protests, including protests which target those who are considered by some to be complicit in the genocide being committed in Gaza.”
